Soldier Guide Training Joint Base San Antonio 5/7/2023

The ability for our instructor, and other Summit members who have gone through Summit before, to share their stories as an example and open the floor up with their own personal vulnerabilities was inspiring and hopeful that my story could affect another’s just as well. It was a great reminder that the need for fellowship and sharing with others can be a new part of my ongoing story. Now I can begin to look at my story and assess a change of perspective and a new light of hope that God can still use me yet!
___
I learned that my journey is unique and by telling people about it, can be used to give hope and inspire others. That there are other people around us that might be going through certain things in life but by creating a bond based in God we are able to help and accompany each other through hard times.
___
I loved the community, the environment, the energy and the mission of this program. I believe in today's world it is absolutely necessary to bring together people to re-ignite the community spirit in our world.
___
I confirmed what I thought about brokenness that we all have it, but it is how you handle it. That God will allow you to suck because he knows you can overcome it. I learned that talking about myself to others is an awesome feeling even though it makes me so uncomfortable. I will go through life trying to leave my mark on individuals as individuals have left their mark on me.
___
I learned a lot, mostly not to be afraid to speak out if you feel something you did is a sin you can always go to God and pray and let him know without him getting angry or upset with you about what you did. He will understand what you’ve done and forgive you always. I learned I can speak out to a group of people I’m not too familiar with if we all start to grow a bond and trust each other the more you know the more comfortable you get with being able to let out how you feel and your story. This will change things by showing me that it’s okay to trust others and not always block out people because you think they won’t be there forever. They can always be a text or a call away even if they aren’t completely there for you.
___
The biggest thing I got from this training was the ability to look back and dissect events in my life. I think that is an effective skill to help deal with things in the past and for more self-awareness. I also opened up a little more and told people things I would have never told about my experiences. It helped build a connection to others that I would not have connected to on that level. I don't think I gained anything more on the knowledge about God part. I think the training just reinforced it. It was good training that I wasn't expecting to play out this way. Thank you all for the experience.
___
Opening up and being vulnerable in the Summit Initiative space becomes inevitable because of the nature of the flow of course curriculum and the way it is delivered. The layout and progression of life’s different happenings (innocence, brokenness, rescue and restoration) aligns well with honestly everyone such that it triggers a remembrance of one’s life. In this memory one is able to see and relate to particular seasons of life and ultimately see Jesus in one’s life. It’s a real experience with real people so one comes out really changed.
___
Even though I am a Christian prior to coming, this training helped me immensely to encourage me in my walk with God, get into deep life discussions with others and connect in a very real vulnerable way!! I really appreciate that I feel prepared sharing my story with others, how to respond to others stories, ways to meditate on scripture, and I really enjoyed praying for each other after hearing other’s stories!
___
What I learned about God is that he is always within you no matter how difficult life gets. God always shows up in many ways. I learned that I am still healing from my journey. This actually opens so many doors and connections with others who are still in their healing journey and we can help each other understand it’s okay to feel what we are feeling.
___
The different periods of life like from innocence etc. I learned I don’t like sharing my story with people if I don’t feel connected to them. We’ll learn to trust others and then I can share my story when there is community involved.
___
The training I thought was pretty good. It helped me dig deeper within myself, my purpose, and my journey with God. I didn’t learn this but I felt it more this weekend but God’s love is unconditional. I learned I am stronger than I give myself credit for. This changed my whole outlook on life and how I want to proceed with my relationship with God.
___
Even though this is not my first Summit event, I still continue to grow in my walk with God each time I attend these wonderful Summit trainings. Each Summit event I've attended has helped me to grow in community with others, deeper connection with my walk with God and to help me to dive deeper in to My Story. I have learned new things about myself and I am able to take away something that truly connects with me in every Summit event.
